A little about ourselvesThe Democracy School Initiative, is a school wide initiative to promote civic awareness amongst our students. The curriculum, tied in with a service learning component. In partnership with the McCormick Foundation, Oswego East High School is working to promoting civic learning with a tie to leadership in our community. Our students will become an informed and active groups of citizens.

It is official! House Bill 4025, making Civics a required class in the state of Illinois was approved by Governor Rauner, starting the 2016-2017 school year. Congratulations to the McCormick Foundation and all representatives sponsoring this bill. Click Here to read more. News you can useAll juniors and seniors, if interested, can apply to become involved in the U.S. Senate Youth Program. This prestigious opportunity provides selected students with the opportunity to be one of two students from the state of Illinois to be sent to Washington D.C. Students will be immersed in Washington activities for the week long stay. While traveling and visiting government and historical areas, the students will also be able to meet senators, representatives and many more government officials. In addition, through the Hearst Foundation, students will receive a $5,000 scholarship to continue pursuing their interests in government. To see more, click on the following links:

See what East Students are doing!Oswego East students help give to Flint, MichiganMrs. Lopez's AP Human Geography classes researched and educated each other on the crisis taking place in Flint regarding their water. After learning what was going on, the classes collected money and donated that money to Flint, MI. Mrs. Lopez's classes help to raise over $140 for the city of Flint. Civics in action in Mrs. Lopez's Classes.
Veterans Visit OEHSThis Veterans Day, all Oswego East students had the privilege to hear from community members who served in our Armed Services. We thank them for their service and for sharing their experiences with our students:
Oswego East Democracy School Twitter Page Free Throws For FreedomOn November 6th, the Social Studies Department at Oswego East participated in Free Throws for Freedom, which each teacher received pledges (donations) for each free throw made out of 20. Overall the teachers raised $4000 for the Wounded Warrior Project. Below is a link to the district's press release and view into the event:
